EARKEEPER

Harmful noise around us today can lead to hearing damage/ loss.

It's a high price to pay...and can arise from too many decibels at work or in our leisure time.

We're here to raise awareness of this risk - to prevent damage.

There is some publicity about the link between damaged hearing and harmful noise but it's obvious when you look the consequences, there should be more!

Employers' obligation to offer protection - as hearing loss is a prevalent permanent work-related injury!

As excessive noise in the workplace is common in many professions, in the European Union, an EU directive sets a daily noise exposure limit value of 87dB(A).

In workplaces  with noise levels above 87dB(A) the directive compels companies to take measures to lower the noise. If noise levels cannot be adequately reduced the employees must be given hearing protection.

But even when hearing protection is made available, many workers still fail to use it. They may know about the noise but few understand the seriousness of the problem and the need to take preventive measures.

It is not only in the workplace that we see the problem of harmful noise: music events,  discos or other leisure activities where excessive noise is involved, are today the greatest causes of hearing damage- especially for young people.....the iPod generation!

People 'buy in' to tangible evidence of danger to hearing.

Our philosophy: 'People don't buy in to abstract information about decibels. When noise levels in their working or leisure environments require immediate measures to prevent hearing damage, Earkeeper gives them the tangible evidence they need, easily and accurately.'

Earkeeper: a handy personal-credit card-sized noise meter- thar people will actually use

To address the problem we have created Earkeeper: to help people who work-or do leisure activities in noisy environments- assess situations that might harm their hearing.
